Name: Saami

Age: 16

Saami is a very pretty girl. Her hair is long and a deep shade of brown. And it reaches in between her shoulder blades. It is straight as a board, something she hates, and she very often keeps it in a neat bun. But that’s usually when she is bending or fighting. She wears the traditional braid and "hair loopies" on occasion. This particular style comes more often though, because she knows Taru liked it.

Her eyes are a dark shade of blue. Her features are soft and she smiles often. People often compliment her on her smile because it is easily construed as genuine, even when it is forced. Saami is a little on the short side. She stands at 5'4" and weighs 110 pounds.

During her travels, she had to trade her anorak for Earth Kingdom clothing so she is usually seen wearing beiges and light greens as opposed to icy blues from her homeland. She prefers to wear blue because of her heritage and because she thinks it will help make her stand out if she is spotted by Taru.

Bending: Saami is a beginner waterbender. She learned a little bit of fighting from her brother. She is a great healer since she's been healing for about eight years. She's a much better archer.

Personality: Saami is a very cheerful young lady, the exact opposite of her older brother, Taru. She's calm, extremely patient, and an all around happy go lucky girl. She's not quick tempered or easily offended and can be rather naive when it comes right down to it. She gets into troublesome situations a lot because she is so trusting. Saami isn't one to hold a grudge either. She forgives and forgets quite easily, much to the chagrin of people close to her.

Saami can make friends rather easily, but she often makes friends with the wrong kind of people because of how trusting she is. People like to take advantage of her. She doesn't like describing herself as a doormat, but that's exactly what she is. She is fiercely protective of her brother and refuses to admit that there is a possibility that Taru's just a bad guy. She firmly believes that there is some good in him somewhere. She is determined to find him and straighten out their past.

History:

Saami was born while it was snowing. There were several names her parents had chosen for her but she was dubbed Saami at the urging of the then four and half year old Taru. “She looks like a Saami,” he had said, much to the amusement of his parents. The baby girl grew and was almost literally attached at the hip of her brother. They were practically inseparable during most of their childhood. They were fiercely protective of each other and Taru would often defend her should the other children tease her.

When Saami was about eight years old, she discovered she could bend. Her mother, Misu, began taking the girl to the healers' tent and Saami's life as a healer began. Girls were forbidden to learn how to fight with their bending and this never bothered Saami much. But her brother thought she should learn. So he would teach her in secret. Saami wasn't very fond of keeping secrets, especially from her parents. But Taru was so insistent on it. And well, to be quite honest, she enjoyed spending the time with him.

As time went on, the other kids grew fearful of her brother because he became rather violent and cruel toward the others. Saami defended him even when she didn't understand his actions. She began to feel like they were drifting apart. And that really bothered her.

Then one day, their entire world was shattered. A Fire Nation troop invaded their camp and basically burned the entire thing to the ground. Saami was not there during the attack. Taru had sent her to the fishing hole earlier that day. But when she returned to the charred remains of her home, she found her brother, waiting for her at their tent. He calmly and rather nonchalantly explained that everyone had been taken to a mine to be workers. And that they were going to some newly conquered Fire Nation city. After easily figuring out that Taru was involved, Saami was devastated and refused to go anywhere with him. A heated argument ensued and it ended with Saami attacking Taru.

She was no where near as skilled as he was and he defeated her with no trouble. He was silent for a moment before turning around and walking away. That was the last time she ever saw him. Saami managed to gather herself enough to make it to the Northern Water Tribe city where she recuperated and worked for a little while as a healer. After which, she decided it was time to pack up and travel. So at the age of fifteen, Saami left the North Pole.

During her travels, she picked up the bow and arrow and became quite adept at it. Her bending is still quite weak but she is a proficient healer. She decided then, after a while that finding Taru was her goal. There had to be an explanation for his behavior. There simply had to be.
